How does an LED face mask work?
An LED mask acts on the skin with light of a precisely defined wavelength that penetrates to different depths. The LumenLuxe mask has 210 LEDs and 7 types of light. What is the difference between the light colours?
Each wavelength penetrates to a different depth and serves a different purpose. Red light at 630 nm supports regeneration and collagen production, which is why it is associated with skin firmness and wrinkles. Blue light at 460 nm stays near the surface and acts on the bacteria linked to acne. Green light at 520 nm is used to even out skin tone and soften pigmentation. How often and for how long should I use the mask?
The recommended use is 10 minutes per session, 3 to 5 times a week. With regular use the first visible change usually appears after about 4 weeks. Shorter but regular sessions give a better result than long sessions once in a while, because the skin responds to a repeated stimulus. Use the mask on clean, dry skin without make-up and without sunscreen.
When will I see the first results?

Why does the mask run at 20 mW/cm² and not more?
Because in light therapy more does not mean better. The literature calls this the biphasic dose response: low to medium doses of light stimulate cell activity, while high doses suppress it. The range of 5 to 50 mW/cm² is commonly cited in studies as the band in which light supports regeneration and healing. An output of 20 mW/cm² sits in the middle of that band.
Beyond the optimal dose the effect does not multiply — a cell has a limited capacity to take in photons, and excess energy leads to oxidative stress rather than to regeneration. A higher figure on the box is therefore a marketing advantage, not a biological one.
How should I compare the output of LED masks?
The mW/cm² figure alone is not enough — what matters is the total dose the skin receives. Dose is output multiplied by time and is given in J/cm². At 20 mW/cm² over ten minutes the LumenLuxe mask delivers roughly 12 J/cm², which corresponds to the 10 to 60 J/cm² range that clinical LED devices work with.
So when comparing two masks, ask for three numbers at once: output, recommended session length, and the resulting dose. A mask with double the output and half the time delivers the same dose. Wavelength accuracy matters just as much — light outside the effective range will not deliver the desired effect no matter how strong it is.
Is higher output better for sensitive skin?
Rather the opposite. Sensitive, reactive skin tolerates a lower intensity used regularly better than a high intensity used occasionally. The reason is not the light itself but the heat — the higher the output, the greater the thermal load, and heat is among the known triggers of redness in reactive skin.

Is an LED mask safe?
LED therapy is a non-invasive method that uses neither UV radiation nor heat. There are situations, however, where it should be avoided or discussed with a doctor first: when taking medication that increases light sensitivity (isotretinoin or some antibiotics, for example), with retinal conditions, and with epilepsy that is sensitive to light stimuli. If you have an active skin condition or you are pregnant, consult your doctor before use.
Can I combine the mask with other skincare?
Yes, but the order matters. Use the mask on clean, dry skin without serums or creams — a layer of product can block the light. Apply hydrating and regenerating products after the session, when the skin is well supplied with blood and takes ingredients up better. We recommend using retinol and acids at a different time of day than the mask, so you do not irritate the skin unnecessarily.
Why does the number of LEDs matter?
The number of LEDs determines how much of the face receives an even dose of light. The LumenLuxe mask has 210 LEDs arranged to cover the whole face including the outer areas. On masks with a low LED count, spots with markedly weaker intensity appear and the result is uneven. The LED count alone is not enough, though — wavelength accuracy matters just as much.
How does an at-home mask differ from a salon treatment?
The main difference is intensity and frequency. Salon devices work at a higher output, but you go a few times a year. An at-home mask has a lower intensity, but you use it daily, which is decisive in LED therapy — the skin responds to repetition. In terms of cost it is a one-off investment instead of repeated payments for individual treatments.
What is the warranty and can I return the mask?
The mask comes with a 24-month warranty. On top of that you have 60 days to return it without giving a reason — if the mask does not suit you or you are not happy with the result, we refund your money. That window is deliberate, because first results appear after four weeks and we want you to have enough time to genuinely try the mask.
